Academic Team / Quick Recall

JCPS Academic Team Quick Recall buzzers and question cards
Category:

Season:
Fall through spring

Quick Recall is the buzzer event. Students answer academic questions against a clock, and a competition squad usually needs at least four students on the table.

What Academic Team / Quick Recall is

  • A buzzer team. Students answer academic questions against a clock, in rounds, against another school's table.
  • A competition squad usually needs at least four students, so a school with only two or three interested kids may practice without competing.
  • Offered at elementary, middle and high school in buildings that field a team — not every level exists in every school.

What Academic Team / Quick Recall is not

  • Not Future Problem Solving. FPS is slower and more analytical, with written work instead of a buzzer.
  • Not Mayor's Cup, which is mostly elementary and school-run.
  • Governor's Cup is the broader KAAC umbrella that includes Quick Recall plus written events — Quick Recall is one piece of it.

Who runs it

A school sponsor coaches the team. JCPS coordinates Quick Recall leagues; it does not assign the coach.

Season and calendar

How kids get on Academic Team / Quick Recall

  • Ask who sponsors Quick Recall at the school, then ask that teacher directly.
  • Ask whether the school selects students — some hold a tryout or use classroom performance.
  • Ask whether joining the club puts your child on the competition roster. At many schools those are two different things.

A teacher or school sponsor runs the group. The district may coordinate a league or showcase, but it does not staff the team. Not every JCPS school offers this, and availability changes year to year — confirm at your child's school before you plan around it.

Who sponsors this at your child's school is a school question. Ask the front office, the counselor, or the teacher who runs the group. JCPS Insider does not keep a live sponsor list and cannot tell you who the coach is. Please do not email us to find a sponsor, meeting time, or roster.

Questions to ask the school

  1. What day and time does the team meet?
  2. Are there fees, and is there travel to matches?
  3. Does this building have an elementary, middle or high team this year?
  4. Do you also run Future Problem Solving or Mayor's Cup?
  5. How do you pick who sits at the table for a match?

Schools we have seen list Academic Team / Quick Recall

This list is incomplete on purpose and is not a directory. We only list what we have actually seen a school publish, so a school missing here may still run the program — and a school listed here can drop it.

  • Bowen Elementary

Quick Recall listed among school activities.

  • Lincoln Elementary Performing Arts

Academic team listed alongside the arts program.

  • Slaughter Elementary

Academic team listed among school activities.

  • DuBois Academy High School

Academic team listed on the school's program.

Still verifying districtwide. If your school fields a team, tell us so we can add it — that link is for telling us what a school offers, not for asking who the sponsor is. Browse the schools directory or tell us what your school offers.
