- Want them to play for their JCPS school → school team. Start with that school's athletic director.
- Younger child or first time in a sport → Louisville Parks Youth Athletics or YMCA youth sports.
- Year-round / travel → a club for that sport, not the school roster.
- Need a camp week → Lessons & Camps.
Youth Rec
Parks, YMCA, travel clubs, and how school teams work

Youth sports in Jefferson County split into two systems, and mixing them up is how kids miss a season. JCPS school teams are the public-school path: tryouts, a KHSAA physical, paperwork to that school's athletic director, and a fall–winter–spring calendar that follows Kentucky high school rules. Those rosters are for students enrolled in that building. Middle schools field fewer sports, and the list changes by campus, so the office — not a Facebook rumor — is the source.
The other path is rec: Louisville Parks Youth Athletics and the YMCA of Greater Louisville. That's where most younger kids and first-time players should start. No school tryout, looser age bands, and signup windows that don't match KHSAA. Travel clubs sit in a third lane. They don't replace a school physical or a Parks registration. Use the bubbles below for the sport. Use the checklist under that for “can they actually practice next week.”
