MATHCOUNTS

• A middle school mathematics competition.
• Chapter first, then state, then national rounds for students who advance.

• Not a high school program. The grade band is middle school.
• Not the same as a school math club.
• Not the same as Governor's Cup math tests.

A school sponsor or coach runs the team.

Winter. Practice usually starts well before the chapter round, so ask when the practice group begins meeting.

• Ask how the school picks the competing team.
• Ask whether the practice group is open to anyone who wants to try.
• Expect the practice group and the competition roster to be different lists.

A teacher or school sponsor runs the group. The district may coordinate a league or showcase, but it does not staff the team. Not every JCPS school offers this, and availability changes year to year — confirm at your child's school before you plan around it.

1. Which grades can join here?
2. When and how often does the practice group meet?
3. Is the school competing this year?
4. How is the competing team chosen?
5. Are there any fees?

This list is incomplete on purpose and is not a directory. We only list what we have actually seen a school publish, so a school missing here may still run the program — and a school listed here can drop it.

Still verifying. Tell us which middle schools compete — that link is for adding a school, not for asking who the coach is. Browse the schools directory or tell us what your school offers.
