Science Olympiad

• A team competition made up of separate events.
• Students prep specific events across biology, chemistry, physics and hands-on building.

• Not Science Fair — there is no single individual project.
• Not robotics.
• Not a single test. Each event is its own preparation.

A school sponsor runs the team.

Winter through spring. Event assignments usually happen well before the tournament, so a late sign-up can mean no event to prepare.

• Ask how events are assigned, because teams are often event-based and capped.
• Ask which events the school fields this year — it changes.
• Ask whether a student who joins late can still be placed in an event.

A teacher or school sponsor runs the group. The district may coordinate a league or showcase, but it does not staff the team. Not every JCPS school offers this, and availability changes year to year — confirm at your child's school before you plan around it.
