JCPS school archery (NASP)

Spring at many middle and high schools. Ask that school's athletic director or the NASP coach.

Public ranges and lessons (Jefferson County first)

  • E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park archery range — free and open to the public. About eight targets, 10–60 yards, off Tom Sawyer Drive. Field tips only; no broadheads or crossbows on the park targets. NASP-certified lessons in spring and fall through the park recreation desk, for groups and individuals.
  • Louisville Metro Parks — confirm any additional park butts (some lists mention Chickasaw). Parks Athletics: (502) 456-3261.

Kentucky Fish & Wildlife public ranges (short drive)

  • Statewide map: fw.ky.gov shooting ranges
  • A shooting-range permit is required on KDFWR-managed ranges — free if you already hold an annual hunting/fishing license, otherwise a paid annual or one-day permit. Youth 15 and under must be with an adult.
  • Closest listed archery: Taylorsville Lake WMA archery range. The headquarters range is in Frankfort (#1 Sportsman's Lane) — 11 lanes, dawn to dusk.
  • Otter Creek Outdoor Recreation Area (Brandenburg / Meade County) — larger outdoor recreation site with archery. Confirm current hours before you drive.

Private clubs, indoor and lessons

  • Fern Creek Sportsman's Club — private club, 40-yard outdoor archery, 3D shoots open to the public.
  • Full Draw Archery — Shepherdsville. Indoor range, lessons, retail.

Gear

Buy or rent at a shop that has a range. Don't show up at Tom Sawyer with hunting broadheads.
