Saturday, October 17, 2026 has two free art stops in Louisville and two library programs with no fee printed on the listing. Its one full event is a free Halloween party in Brown Park. There is also a $10 nature morning, plus short notes on Maker Faire and Boo at the Zoo, which have full write ups in our October 16 pieces. JCPS Insider checked every page in this guide on October 12, 2026. Times are Eastern.

Where can you walk into free art today?

21c Museum Hotel Louisville says its galleries are "open round the clock and free of charge." The hotel page places the building at 700 W Main Street, Louisville, Kentucky 40202, on Museum Row. Phone 502 217 6300. No Saturday tour time was posted on those pages, so today is a walk in, not a reserved group. The pages checked October 12 did not list a closure for October 17.

The Speed: free park, paid galleries

The visit page says the Elizabeth P. and Frederick K. Cressman Art Park is free, ungated, and open every day from dawn until dusk. The museum address is 2035 South Third Street, Louisville, KY 40208. That park is the Saturday outdoor plan.

Saturday gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Those tickets are not low cost. The same page lists adults ages 18 to 59 at $25, children ages 4 to 17 at $21, and seniors 60 and older at $23. Members are free. Children under 12 must be with an adult inside the museum. Last tickets are sold one hour before closing. Phone 502 634 2700.

The visit page also says Sunday general admission is pay what you can, including free. That is Sunday, October 18, from noon to 5 p.m. It is not the Saturday rule.

Two library programs, one needs registration

Two Louisville Free Public Library programs run Saturday. Neither listing posts a fee. Storytime does not say registration is required; Nature Play does.

Family Storytime: Mindfulness is Saturday, October 17, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Parkland large meeting room, 2743 Virginia Ave, Louisville, KY 40211. The page lists ages 0 to 10. Caregivers get a short mindful activity while children are in the storytime. Phone 502 574 1832.

Nature Play is the same day, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., on the porch at the Northeast Regional Library, 15 Bellevoir Circle, Louisville, KY 40223. The page says families are welcome, the program is nature play, and you should dress for the weather because it runs rain or shine. Registration closes October 17 at 2 p.m. Phone 502 394 0379. On October 12 the listing still offered a register button and did not say the program was full.

Parkland is in the West End and Northeast Regional is off Bellevoir Circle near Hurstbourne. Doing both means a cross county drive. Pick the branch closer to home if you only need one.

Where is free trick or treating on Saturday?

Halloween in Brown Park runs Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Brown Park at the corner of Kresge Way and Browns Lane, next to Baptist Health Louisville. The Chamber St. Matthews and the City of St. Matthews host it, and they have since 1997. The chamber page says the event is free and open to all ages. Free parking is across from Baptist Health Louisville at 4007 and 4003 Kresge Way, and the City of St. Matthews says not to park in the park lot or along Browns Lane; use the signaled crosswalk to reach the park.

Trick or treating starts at 11:30 a.m. Families begin at the duck bridge and follow the walking path past 50 to 75 participating businesses and organizations. The page also lists music, games, inflatables, and hayrides. Food and drinks are optional and sold on site, with proceeds going to a local nonprofit.

Two warnings from the organizer matter for planning. The chamber says it may close the line early so vendors can clear out by 3 p.m., and the event ends promptly at 3 p.m. It also tells families not to wait until the last minute to arrive. The event runs rain or shine. The page links to a kids Halloween costume contest. Questions go to the Chamber St. Matthews at 502 899 2523 or chamber@thechamberstmatthews.com.

Is Maker Faire free?

Yes. Louisville Maker Faire is free from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the University of Louisville Engineering Student Success and Research Building, 201 Engineering Dr, with no ticket and no RSVP. Parking, food, and the full exhibit rundown are in our weekend guide.

What does Boo at the Zoo cost Saturday night?

Boo at the Zoo runs Saturday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Louisville Zoo, 1100 Trevilian Way, at $14.25 for non members and $8.50 for members, with tickets bought online in advance. Timed tickets are sold until 8:30 p.m., and parking in the zoo lot is included with the ticket. Saturday is part of the October 15 to 18 weekend. It also runs October 22 to 25 and October 29 and 30, plus an Allergy Friendly Night on Wednesday, October 28, with entry from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The zoo FAQ says the last night is Friday, October 30, 2026. Zoo gates close at 3 p.m. on Boo nights, and daytime guests may stay until 4 p.m. What the ticket includes, what to bring, and stroller rentals are in our tonight and tomorrow guide.

Is there a $10 nature morning?

Walk Through the Wild is Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Louisville Nature Center. The ticket page from ChooseWell Communities, the nonprofit that runs it, says all tickets are $10, whether adult, child, or student. The nature center's own site lists its address as 3745 Illinois Avenue, Louisville, KY 40213, and its phone as 502 458 1328. ChooseWell's contact line is 502 701 2026.

For a family of four, that is $40. This one also overlaps Parkland storytime, so pick one for the morning.

Planning notes

Parkland storytime and Walk Through the Wild share the same morning, so choose one. Register for Nature Play before you drive to Bellevoir Circle.
