Your Jefferson County Board of Education member right now is one of five district members or one of two at large members, and all seven of those terms end December 31, 2026. On the JCPS Board of Education page, checked October 23, 2026, the list is Tricia Lister in District 1, Corrie Shull in District 2, Taylor Everett in District 3, Trevin Bass in District 4 and Gail Logan Strange in District 5, with Linda Duncan and Keith Look at large.

Who are the current JCPS board members, and how do you email them?

These emails and phone numbers come from the district's Board of Education page as it read on October 23, 2026.

Every member also takes mail at P.O. Box 34020, Louisville, KY 40232. The 502 485 3566 number is shared across several member listings, so it may not reach a specific member directly. The minutes and board orders cited in this article are posted on the KSBA public portal.

Why are there seven members but only five districts?

Kentucky's legislature cut the board from seven seats to five. 2026 Ky. Acts ch. 154, passed as Senate Bill 4, shows "Veto Overridden April 14, 2026." Its emergency clause put the board sections into effect on passage. The five divisions are now written into KRS 160.211 by Jefferson County Clerk precinct code. Under KRS 160.210, a candidate has to live in the division they run in.

Section 18 told the sitting members how to cover the five new divisions until the new board takes office. If one member lived in a division, that member got it. If two or more lived there, they drew lots. If no member lived there, the members who were still unassigned drew for it. The Act says "any remaining member shall represent the district at large for the remainder of his or her term."

The board held that drawing at its May 12, 2026 work session. The minutes say lots were drawn in Districts 1, 3 and 4, and that no sitting member lived in District 5. The assignments were Lister in District 1, Shull in District 2, James Craig in District 3, Bass in District 4 and Logan Strange in District 5. Duncan and Everett were at large. Logan Strange holds District 5 through that drawing because no sitting member lived there, but her name is on the District 1 ballot, and KRS 160.210 requires a candidate to live in the division they seek. The temporary assignment ends with the current terms on December 31, 2026, and she is listed on the District 1 sample ballot.

Section 17 sets the end date. Every current term ends December 31, 2026, and all five new seats are filled at the November 3, 2026 election. Within ten days of January 1, 2027, the superintendent has to call the new board's organizing meeting. The winners in Districts 4 and 5 get a two year first term. The winners in Districts 1, 2 and 3 get four years.

Did any JCPS board members step down this year?

Yes. One member resigned and the board appointed his replacement.

At the June 9, 2026 board meeting, the minutes say James Craig "announced that this would be his last meeting on the Board of Education, resigning after eight years of service to pursue new personal and professional opportunities."

On June 30, 2026, the board voted 6 to 0 on Order #2026-97. That vote accepted Craig's resignation, moved Everett from at large to District 3 and declared an at large vacancy. The board then elected Lister vice chair.

On August 24, 2026, the board approved Order #2026-124, naming Dr. Keith Look to the at large seat under KRS 160.190 and Board Policy 01.3. All six remaining members voted yes. The superintendent welcomed him at the September 1 meeting.

KRS 160.190 spells out how any board vacancy gets filled. The remaining members fill it by majority vote within 60 days. Within 30 days of the vacancy, the board has to advertise it for two weeks on the district website and in the county's largest newspaper. If the board does not act, the state education commissioner fills the seat. The appointee serves until a successor is elected or appointed and qualifies.

Who is running for JCPS school board in each district?

These names come from the Jefferson County Clerk's official sample ballots for the November 3, 2026 general election, read October 23, 2026. They are listed in ballot order. The races are nonpartisan, and each ballot also has a write in line.

District 1 (sample ballot): Jody Hurt; Gail Logan Strange.

District 2 (sample ballot): Tim Shaughnessy; Alante' J. Gaines; Robert Kahne; Lillian Brents; Phil Haming.

District 3 (sample ballot): Gay P. Adelmann; Veda Pendleton; Taylor Everett; Neil Seftor.

District 4 (sample ballot): Kimberly Ann Vinegar; Michelle E. Patrick; Trevin Bass; Deja B. Jackson.

District 5 (sample ballot): William E. Snawder; TraShaun Spencer; Kyle N. Killebrew; Carrie Donovan.

Two of those printed names won't count. Louisville Public Media reported on September 21, 2026 that Jefferson Circuit Judge Melissa Logan Bellows disqualified Adelmann from District 3 and that Spencer withdrew from District 5. LPM reported that former board member James Craig filed the circuit court motion to remove Adelmann from the ballot. The clerk told LPM it would not reprint ballots. Votes for Adelmann will not be counted, and votes for Spencer will be disregarded.

Three sitting members are on the ballot: Logan Strange in District 1, Everett in District 3 and Bass in District 4. Shull, Lister, Duncan and Look are not on any of the five district ballots.

How much do JCPS board members make?

They don't get a salary. KRS 160.280 says "Members of boards of education shall receive no salaries." A member may receive a $150 per diem for each day they attend a regular or special meeting, plus actual expenses. The same $150 applies to the annual training the law requires.

There's a yearly cap. The statute says: "In no case shall the expenses incurred within the district or per diem of any member exceed six thousand dollars ($6,000) in any calendar year." Approved travel outside the district can be reimbursed separately. Members may join the district's group medical or dental plan, but they pay the full premium.

JCPS handles out of district travel under Board Policy 01.821, Board Member Compensation and Expenses. A September 26, 2023 board agenda item says members must get board approval before they incur those costs. Reimbursement is at district employee rates and needs receipts. JCPS Insider did not find a JCPS posted total of what each member was actually paid in 2026.
