What this school is
Byck is first a west Louisville neighborhood elementary. If School Finder assigns your address to Byck, it is the resides school and no magnet application is required.
A districtwide Talent Development program operates inside the building. Resides enrollment and admission to that program are two different doors. Byck is not one of the five Traditional elementary magnets.
The school is in the Enhanced Support and Accelerated Improvement group. Families should compare the program theme with the current reading, math, attendance, staffing, and transportation picture.

Start with School Finder. A child assigned to Byck registers for the resides school; a child living elsewhere applies for Talent Development during the school-choice window.
- Run School Finder and write down whether Byck is the child's resides elementary.
- If it is the resides school, register with JCPS. Kindergarten and new-to-district students still complete registration.
- If it is not the resides school, apply for the districtwide Talent Development program during the magnet window.

Transportation follows the enrollment path. Resides students use the regular elementary system. Out-of-zone program students were affected by the 2024 magnet-bus cuts unless Byck was their resides school. Confirm 2026–27 eligibility before accepting a program seat.
