JCPS students started the 2026 to 27 school year on Thursday, August 6. The last scheduled day for students is Monday, May 24, 2027.
Between those dates, families have four major school breaks plus ten additional weekdays when students are scheduled to be out of school. Several connect with weekends or other days off, creating longer stretches away from school than a quick look at the district calendar suggests.

Every JCPS no school date for 2026 to 27
These are the districtwide dates families will want on their calendars:

Monday, September 28 through Friday, October 2: Fall break for students. September 28 is also a Professional Development Flex Day for teachers

Tuesday, November 3: Election Day, no school
Wednesday, November 25 through Friday, November 27: Thanksgiving break
Monday, December 21 through Friday, January 1: Winter break
Monday, January 18: Martin Luther King Jr. Day, no school

Tuesday, February 16: Family Teacher Conferences, no school for students

JCPS also lists Memorial Day, Monday, May 31, as a no school day. It comes after the scheduled last student day and falls between the May and June weather makeup dates.
Fall break is really nine days away from school
Students are out Monday, September 28 through Friday, October 2. With the weekend before and the weekend after, that gives them nine consecutive calendar days away from school, from Saturday, September 26 through Sunday, October 4.
September 28 appears twice on the district calendar. It is a Professional Development Flex Day for teachers and also the first day of the listed fall break for students. Students are not scheduled for school that Monday.
November starts with four days off
The November calendar has an easy childcare trap.
Students are out Monday, November 2 for a Professional Development Gold Day and Tuesday, November 3 for Election Day. With Saturday and Sunday, students are away from school for four straight days from October 31 through November 3.
Thanksgiving comes three weeks later. School is out Wednesday, November 25 through Friday, November 27, giving students five consecutive days away once the weekend is included.
Winter break gives students 16 consecutive days away
Winter break begins Monday, December 21 and runs through Friday, January 1.
The weekends on each side stretch that to 16 consecutive calendar days, beginning Saturday, December 19 and ending Sunday, January 3. Students are scheduled to return Monday, January 4.
February creates another four day weekend
Monday, February 15 is a Professional Development Gold Day. Tuesday, February 16 is Family Teacher Conference day. Neither is a student attendance day.
That puts the preceding weekend and both weekdays together for another four day stretch away from class.
Spring break becomes a ten day stretch
The date to notice is Friday, March 26.
Official spring break does not begin until Monday, March 29, but students are already out March 26 for a Professional Development Flex Day. Add both weekends and students have 10 consecutive calendar days away from school, from Friday, March 26 through Sunday, April 4.
They are scheduled to return Monday, April 5.
For families considering a longer spring trip, March 26 is an easy date to miss if you only look at the line labeled spring break.
JCPS is closed for Oaks Day
There is no school Friday, April 30 for Oaks Day.
That gives JCPS students a three day weekend immediately before the first Saturday in May, one of the more distinctly Louisville entries on the school calendar.
Students also have no school Tuesday, May 18 for Election Day.
Do not treat May 24 as guaranteed yet
Monday, May 24 is the scheduled final student day. It is not a date families should treat as untouchable months in advance.
JCPS has reserved six possible makeup days for students:

Memorial Day, Monday, May 31, remains a no school day.
The district says inclement weather can alter the calendar and that updated information will be posted on the JCPS website and its Google calendar.
So May 24 is a good date to pencil in. It is not a good reason to book an expensive nonrefundable trip for May 25 without checking the calendar again closer to summer.
Preschool families need the preschool calendar
The regular JCPS calendar is not the preschool calendar.
Preschool students began school Thursday, August 27, three weeks after the August 6 opening for other JCPS students.
The ending dates are different too. Preschool students returning to preschool for the 2027 to 28 school year have a scheduled last day of Thursday, April 29. Preschool students going to kindergarten have a scheduled last day of Thursday, May 20.
Preschool families also have additional days when students do not attend. The 2026 to 27 preschool calendar uses three specific categories: Family Focus Fridays, Family Engagement Days and Family Workshop Days. Each category includes multiple no school dates during the year.
A family looking only at the regular K through 12 calendar could miss quite a few of them.
