How families get in

Jeffersontown is not on the districtwide magnet list with Manual, Male, Butler, Central, Brown, or Western. It is a resides Academies of Louisville high school in Network 2. Use School Finder. If Jeffersontown is the campus tied to your address, you enroll — you do not enter the magnet lottery for a seat in the building.

  • If this is your resides school: register first if the child is new to JCPS, then enroll at Jeffersontown.
  • Choice Zone families still pick close-to-home or far-away. Confirm that map for your address.
  • Academy pathways are chosen after ninth grade. The Freshman Academy is the on-ramp.
  • Welding, CNC, and JROTC seats are not automatic. Ask which sections actually ran last year.
  • If this is not your resides school: apply in the JCPS window as an in-network Academies request or a transfer — not as one of the eight magnet high schools. Jeffersontown is Network 2.
  • A 2.0 GPA is often cited for Academies lottery eligibility. Confirm the current Choices Guide.
  • Do not assume transportation. Resides busing follows district rules for this address; transfers often do not.

About Marine Corps JROTC here

  • JROTC at Jeffersontown is a pathway inside the Business and Health Science academy — not a separate military high school.
  • A seat in the building does not automatically mean a seat in JROTC.
  • Ask how JROTC placement works for resides, network, and transfer students this year.

Who it tends to fit

A good match when

  • School Finder lists Jeffersontown as the resides campus.
  • Welding, CNC, allied health, or Marine JROTC is the reason.
  • An 8:40 Old Six Mile Lane start is workable.
  • A mid-size comprehensive school (about 1,240) sounds right.

Think twice when

  • You are choosing only on published KSA bands.
  • You want Manual, Male, or Atherton IB.
  • You assumed J-Town is still a whole-school magnet.
  • Transfer transportation is the only way the commute works.

Recent news, in context

Campus incidents in this cycle. JCPS Insider did not find a published 2025–26 on-campus shooting story tied to this Old Six Mile Lane building. Neighborhood crime stories in Jeffersontown are not the same as a school-day event.

September 2021 lockdown. A former student entered the building. Police detained the person off campus; no gun was found on that person and no charges were filed in the contemporaneous police account. It is five years old. Ask about current visitor entry and arrival screening anyway.

Tour the welding and health labs at passing time. That is a better picture of daily life than a 2021 headline.
