Pleasure Ridge Park High School
Large southwest Louisville Academies of Louisville campus
Resides high school + Academies of Louisville · Health Sciences · Manufacturing, Engineering & Design · Business and Communications · Home of the Panthers · red and black
- Grades: 9th–12th
- How to get in: Resides or in-network Academies request
- School day: 8:40 a.m.–3:20 p.m.
PRP is the large southwest Louisville Academies campus. It is not one of the eight districtwide magnet high schools, and it is not Butler Traditional, the neighborhood rival. If School Finder assigns your address here, that is the resides school. Families elsewhere in the same network can apply as an in-network Academies request; out-of-network is a transfer, not a magnet. Jason Stinson — a PRP business teacher, then academy principal — became executive principal in February 2025. JCPS Insider is not affiliated with Jefferson County Public Schools.

What this school is
PRP opened in 1958 at 5901 Greenwood Road and is home of the Panthers, in red and black. It is a resides high school and an Academies of Louisville campus — not a districtwide magnet, so there is no districtwide magnet lottery for a seat here. Conway and Farnsley are the listed feeder middle schools, and Butler Traditional is the listed rival.
Every Academies student starts in Freshman Academy. Upperclassmen move into Health Sciences, Manufacturing, Engineering & Design, or Business and Communications. Pathway seats are not automatic. The campus is big — main building, tech building, large gym, E-building, and a fine-arts auditorium, plus Ed Young Stadium.
Who runs the building
Jason Stinson
Jason Stinson was named executive principal effective February 10, 2025. He taught business at PRP and led the Business and Communications academy before the appointment. One KHSAA directory still lists Sheri Duff, which this guide did not treat as settled — confirm athletics contacts on the school site.

How families get in
Two paths. Path A: School Finder says PRP is the resides high school — register. Path B: you live in the same network and want PRP instead of your assigned school — apply as an in-network Academies request. Out-of-network is a transfer, not a magnet.
- Run School Finder. Write down the resides high school and the network.
- If PRP is the resides school, register. New-to-JCPS families still complete district registration.
- If it is in-network but not resides, apply as an Academies request — not as you would for Butler or Manual.
- Tour the academy your child would enter after ninth grade, not only Ed Young Stadium.
- Watch the response deadline if a seat is offered.
Buses follow the resides rule
- Resides students at PRP are in the regular high-school transportation system.
- An in-network Academies seat does not automatically get a magnet bus. Confirm 2026–27 on the Transportation Verification form.
Official 2027–28 application window: November 2, 2026 through December 18, 2026.
Who it tends to fit
A good match when
- PRP is your southwest resides high school.
- You want wall-to-wall academies — health, manufacturing and engineering, or business and communications.
- A large athletics and fine-arts program matters to your student.
Think twice when
- You want Traditional structure and a 7:30 start — that is Butler.
- You want IB or a districtwide academic magnet.
- You need a guaranteed bus from outside the assignment zone.
Tour the academy, not only the stadium.

Academics
Use the Kentucky School Report Card first. These are the school's live banners; the official combined P+D cell was not treated as settled if it differs from adding them.
- Reading: 17% proficient, 3% distinguished — 20% displayed combined.
- Math: 12% proficient, 1% distinguished — 13% displayed combined.
- That sits below Ballard and Eastern and above Doss and Iroquois in this series.
- Athletics and academies are the school's reputation. They are not a reading score.
- Ask how a ninth-grader who arrives novice gets taught, in the academy your child would enter.
