Resides high school + Academies of Louisville · Health Sciences · TEC · Business and Education · Home of the Dragons
- Grades: 9th–12th
- How to get in: Resides or in-network Academies request
- School day: 8:40 a.m.–3:20 p.m.
Doss is a southwest Louisville Academies of Louisville high school. It is not one of the eight districtwide magnet high schools. If School Finder assigns your address here, that is the resides school. A family already in Doss's network can apply as an in-network Academies choice; a family outside that network uses the JCPS transfer process, not a magnet application. Dr. Joseph Ellison, III became executive principal on July 1, 2026. JCPS Insider is not affiliated with Jefferson County Public Schools.

What this school is
Doss sits at 7601 St. Andrews Church Road and is home of the Dragons. It is a resides high school and a wall-to-wall Academies of Louisville campus — not a districtwide magnet, so there is no districtwide magnet lottery for a seat here. Stuart is the listed feeder middle school.
Every Academies student starts in Freshman Academy. Upperclassmen move into Health Sciences, the TEC Academy, or Business and Education. Pathway seats are not automatic, so ask counseling how placement works before you count on a specific pathway.
Who runs the building
Dr. Joseph Ellison, III
Dr. Joseph Ellison, III became executive principal on July 1, 2026, coming from assistant superintendent of high schools. The 2025–26 school profile still names Julie Chancellor, who ran the building that year. Academy principals listed are Troy Duncan (Freshman Academy), Dr. Leila Martinez (Business and Education), Ken Christian (Health Science), and Dr. Shawn Hinds (TEC Academy).
Ellison's public pitch is Diploma+ — a diploma plus a college or workforce plan. Ask what that looks like in the academy your child would enter this year.

How families get in
Two paths. Path A: School Finder says Doss is the resides high school — register. Path B: you live in the same network and want Doss instead of your assigned school — apply as an in-network Academies request. Out-of-network is a transfer, not a magnet.
- Run School Finder. Write down the resides high school and the network.
- If Doss is the resides school, register. New-to-JCPS families still complete district registration.
- If it is in-network but not resides, apply as an Academies request — not as you would for Manual or Central.
- Tour during the academic day and ask to see the academy your child would enter after ninth grade.
- Watch the response deadline if a seat is offered.
Buses follow the resides rule
- Resides students at Doss are in the regular high-school transportation system.
- An in-network Academies seat does not automatically get a magnet bus. Confirm 2026–27 on the Transportation Verification form.
Official 2027–28 application window: November 2, 2026 through December 18, 2026.
Who it tends to fit
A good match when
- Doss is your southwest resides high school.
- You want wall-to-wall academies — health, TEC, or business and education.
- A new executive principal and a Diploma+ push are things you want to watch closely.
Think twice when
- You need high published proficiency bands.
- You want a districtwide magnet such as Manual, Male, or Central.
- You need a guaranteed bus from outside the assignment zone.
Tour the academy, not the pledge.

Academics
Use the Kentucky School Report Card first. These are the school's live banners; the official combined P+D cell was not treated as settled if it differs from adding them.
- Reading: 8% proficient, 1% distinguished — 9% displayed combined.
- Math: 5% proficient, 1% distinguished — 6% displayed combined.
- These are among the lowest published high-school banners in JCPS. Most tested students are novice or apprentice.
- Academies language is not a substitute for asking how a ninth-grader who arrives novice gets taught to read.
- With 333 multilingual learners, ask how ELD is staffed in your child's grade.
