The Kentucky Veterans Parade steps off in NuLu at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 7, 2026, and a Louisville Orchestra family concert, a free kids build at Home Depot and a stack of free library playdates fill the same morning. Most of the free picks this weekend are Saturday morning, and most are aimed at kids 12 and under.

Every listing below was checked October 31 and rechecked November 1, 2026, on the organizer's own page: the Louisville Free Public Library calendar, the Kentucky Veterans Parade site, Home Depot's Kids Workshop page, BAYA Corporation, the Louisville Nature Center, the Louisville Downtown Partnership and First Friday Hop sites, and KMAC Museum's visit page. None of the library listings shows a fee. Times are Eastern.

What's free Saturday morning?

Home Depot Kids Workshop. Home Depot's free Kids Workshop runs Saturday, November 7, from 9 a.m. to noon at its stores, and this month's kit is a dump truck. The company says the workshops are built for ages 5 to 12, take about 30 minutes, and are free "while supplies last." Kids keep the truck, an apron, a pin and a certificate. Home Depot asks a parent or guardian to stay and help, and suggests registering and coming early to get a kit. Registration for the next two kits, a Christmas car ornament on November 21 and a holiday train on December 5, opens November 7, the same page says.

Once Upon an Orchestra: Fly. The Louisville Orchestra and the library bring a free family concert to Jeffersontown on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Go to the Jeffersontown Senior Center, 10631 Watterson Trail, not the library branch next door. The LFPL listing marks this one as offsite and lists the senior center as the location. It says kids make a music instrument first, then hear a program that "weaves together storytelling adventures with creative music making." It's listed for ages 0 to 12.

Tot Swap at Iroquois. Got a closet full of outgrown baby clothes? The Iroquois branch, 601 West Woodlawn Avenue, hosts a free toy and clothing swap with kNOw Waste Louisville from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday. The LFPL listing takes newborn to 5T sizes only, says you can shop even if you bring nothing, and asks you to bring a bag. Unclaimed items are donated, and no registration is required. The branch number is 502 574 1720.

A screen free hike at Beargrass Creek. The Louisville Nature Center lists a free Saturday hike with its executive director, Rebecca Minnick, through the Beargrass Creek Nature Preserve, starting at 11 a.m. The center is at 3745 Illinois Avenue and welcomes donations. The page takes free sign ups through its online shop, so grab a spot ahead of time. Its page doesn't list an age range. Call 502 458 1328 with questions.

If you end up at St. Matthews, stay for the Puzzle and Board Game Swap from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the same room. The LFPL listing is aimed at adults, but it's a drop in swap: bring gently used puzzles and board games, take some home.

What's on Saturday afternoon?

Empowerment on the River. BAYA Corporation holds a free family event at Waterfront Park, 129 River Road, from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. The event page says community organizations will run interactive activities meant to help "boys and girls of all ages" build confidence and try new interests. The page offers free tickets but doesn't say one is required, so reserve one to be safe.

When is the Veterans Day parade in Louisville?

The Kentucky Veterans Parade homepage lists Saturday, November 7, 2026, at 11 a.m. in NuLu. The organizers' parade details page says the route runs along East Market Street from Campbell to Hancock, the 600, 700 and 800 blocks, with a stage on Clay Street at the northeast corner of Market.

That page lists a Massing of the Colors ceremony at about 12:15 p.m. and a 21 gun salute at about 12:30 p.m. From the end of the parade until 1:30 p.m. there's a celebration with interactive displays and Touch a Tank "(and Jeeps!)." The event ends at 1:30 p.m. Neither page lists a ticket or fee.

The easiest parking is free. TARC and Louisville Slugger Field are offering free parking in the Slugger Field lot, 401 West Main Street, with a free TARC shuttle between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The bus picks up and drops off at the Slugger Field lot and at Market and Hancock, and the organizers expect it to run every 15 minutes.

East Market from Campbell to Hancock closes at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. East Market from Baxter to Campbell, where units line up, closes at 8:30 a.m. Questions go to kyvetparade@gmail.com.

Friday night is the first Friday of the month, so the First Friday Hop is on, with galleries in NuLu, downtown, Butchertown, Portland and other arts districts keeping extended hours. Neither the Louisville Downtown Partnership listing nor the Hop's own site posts start and end times for November, so check the galleries you want to visit before you load the car.

The museum lists free admission for children and students, along with Kentucky educators, SNAP and EBT cardholders and MyTARC cardholders. General admission is $8, and seniors and military pay $5.
