What this school is

Farnsley sits on Lees Lane in the Cane Run / Pleasure Ridge Park corridor of southwest Louisville. It is a neighborhood 6–8 first. JCPS also lists it as an Explore Pathways school and as one of three middle schools that host an address-based Mathematics/Science/Technology (MST) magnet. Those are not the same thing.

The Choices Guide feeder chart sends Farnsley to Pleasure Ridge Park High at 100%. Older parent sites sometimes name Western High. Use School Finder for the current high-school path. Elementary feeders listed on the 2025–26 school profile include Eisenhower, Greenwood, Kerrick, King, Sanders, Shacklette, Wellington, and Wilkerson.

Carolyn Smith is listed as principal on the current JCPS homepage, the 2025–26 data book, and older Choices pages (sometimes as Carolyn B. Smith). She posts a weekly morning video for students and staff. Assistant principals on the staff directory include David Bobb (6th), Crystal Phillips (7th), and Brian Smith (8th). How families get in

Two doors, and they are easy to mix up. Most families are here because Farnsley is their resides middle school. A smaller group applies to the address-based MST magnet, which is not open to just any JCPS address.

Resides assignment: if Farnsley is your assigned middle school, you do not submit a magnet application for the regular program. Fifth-graders already in JCPS move automatically unless they live in a Choice Zone or apply somewhere else.
MST magnet: JCPS does not treat Farnsley MST as a districtwide magnet. Students apply to the MST program that serves their home address — Farnsley, Meyzeek, or Newburg each host one.
Explore Pathways are for students who already attend. Families do not apply separately for Explore.

3400 Lees Lane, 40216 — southwest Louisville, near Cane Run Park, Rockford Lane, and Wellington Elementary. A local campus if you already live in the PRP / Shively / Cane Run belt. A long bus if you do not.

Hours match several other JCPS middles (8:40–3:20), later than Echo Trail's 7:30 start. Daily life includes 65+ clubs and activities listed in the current Choices write-up, plus a sports list that runs from archery to volleyball.

Recent news, in context

September 2024: JCPS opened Verizon Innovative Learning Labs at Farnsley, Carrithers, and Lassiter, adding VR, 3-D printing, and AI tools to the building.

No 2025 rezoning story on the scale of Echo Trail or Crosby turned up for Farnsley. Enrollment has eased from 1,000-plus a few years ago to 869 in the current data book, right on the 873 capacity line.

Ask how hallways and lunch work at full capacity. JCPS posts school-level suspension totals, and those numbers move from year to year. Tour the VILS lab and an ordinary academic team on the same visit.
