Westport is an east-end resides middle school on Westport Road, not a whole-school magnet. Most students attend because the address is assigned here. It is an Explore Pathways school, and a Montessori magnet sits on the same campus and does take an application. The building was a high school from 1961 to 1981. Use this guide to keep those two doors separate. JCPS Insider is not affiliated with Jefferson County Public Schools.

What this school is
Westport sits on Westport Road in the St. Matthews / Lyndon / east-end belt. The campus opened as Westport Road High School in 1961. The last senior class graduated in 1981; it has been a 6–8 since. Mascot: Warhawks. Core-values language in Choices: consistency, community, collaboration, coaching.
This is a neighborhood 6–8 first. JCPS also lists it as an Explore Pathways school — Business and Communication, Engineering and Design, Healthcare Science — written to feed Academies of Louisville. A Montessori magnet is a separate program on the same campus.
Who runs the building
Jodie Zeller
Jodie Zeller is named on the current Westport staff directory and school communications. The 2025–26 JCPS middle-school data book still prints Joseph Zeller. For parent contact, use Jodie Zeller. Keonda Mays is listed as 6th-grade assistant principal. Confirm names on the school site before you write a letter.

How families get in
If Westport is your resides middle school, you do not submit a magnet application to attend the neighborhood / Explore program. Fifth-graders already in JCPS move automatically unless they live in a Choice Zone or apply somewhere else. Confirm the address in School Finder.
- Explore Pathways are for students who already attend. Families do not apply separately for Explore.
- Montessori magnet is the application path. Use the current Choices Guide. Transportation rules differ from resides.
- Student transfer is a different form and is not guaranteed.
Two doors on one campus
- Resides / Explore is one door. Montessori is another and takes an application. Sitting in Westport for the neighborhood program does not place a child in Montessori.
- The 2025–26 profile lists elementary feeders including Alex R. Kennedy, Breckinridge-Franklin, Chenoweth, Field, and St. Matthews.
The 2026–27 magnet window (for Montessori and other magnets) was November 3–December 19, 2025. That window is closed.
Who it tends to fit
A good match when
- Westport is your resides school and you want Explore Pathways plus a long arts and sports list, without a lottery.
- You specifically want the Montessori magnet and will apply on time.
- East-end / St. Matthews commute is already your life.
Think twice when
- You assumed the whole building is Montessori. It is not.
- State scores are the only filter — Westport sits mid-pack in this series.
- You want a Traditional magnet culture (Barret, JCTMS, Johnson).

Recent news, in context
WHAS reported Westport among JCPS campuses evacuated in a nationwide swatting event, alongside Ballard, Atherton, and Wilder. The district's statement said all schools returned to normal operations the same morning and that students and staff were safe — a hoax-call story, not a device on campus.
Enrollment has come down from the 1,200s earlier in the decade to 914 on Oct. 1, 2025. The building is not over listed capacity.
Ask how arrival and dismissal work on a 1961 campus with a large front lot. JCPS posts school-level suspension totals, and those numbers move.
